Africa is a continent of great diversity, the second largest of Earth’s seven continents, covering 23% of the world’s total land area and with about 816 million people. It is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the Red Sea, and the Indian Ocean and is divided almost equally by the Equator

Africa is the birthplace of the human race. Archaeological evidence indicates that the continent has been inhabited by humans for some 4 million years.
